Home Repair Program

What is the Home Repair Program?
This program helps low‑ to moderate‑income homeowners in Kosciusko County make critical, non‑emergency repairs to their primary residence. Our goal is to help homeowners stay in their home for the long-term and to keep their home healthy, safe and affordable. Each participant in this program will have to attend financial literacy classes, complete 15-25 volunteer hours with Habitat, and help pay a portion of the repair cost through an affordable, 0% interest loan with Habitat.
Eligible projects may include:
- Roof replacement of an aged or damaged roof
- HVAC system replacement, with a priority given to furnace replacements

Program Steps
Apply
This takes ~1 month from beginning to end. We’ll take an in-depth look at your current financial and housing situation and determine if you qualify for the program. Please note, we can only accept a few applications at a time and will strive to pick people who show a great need for housing repair.
Orientation
Once approved, we meet with you to explain all the details of the program and what will be required of your family.
Invested Equity + Classes
As part of the program, each family is required to put in up to 25 hours of work with Habitat, based on the number of repairs being completed. This includes attending financial and homeownership classes, helping with the repairs on your home, working on other Habitat construction sites, and in our ReStore. Exceptions or additional options can be made for those with physical limitations.
Construction
Once the contractor has been identified and funding is in hand, we will schedule the repair for your home! Our goal is to do this within 3-6 months of your acceptance into the program. The faster you work with us and complete program requirements, the faster the work gets done!
Repair Completion & Loan
We will work with you at every step of the repair process, and to make sure you fully understand any terms and options for any loan repayment needed. Our goal is to complete a quality repair on your home with a loan that is affordable for your budget!
